Welcome to Aaghun Homestay, your home in Kaziranga
At Aaghun Homestay, we invite you to experience the warmth of Assamese hospitality in the heart of Kaziranga, home to the iconic Greater One-Horned Rhinoceros.
We welcome you into our traditional Assamese bungalow, where you'll be treated as a part of our family. From home-cooked local cuisine prepared with fresh, seasonal ingredients to meaningful conversations, village walks and immersive cultural experiences, we offer more than just a place to stay, we offer a way of life.
Surrounded by native plants, birdsong, and the serenity of rural Assam, Aaghun is the perfect place to slow down, reconnect with nature, and discover the soul of the region.
Come as a guest. Leave as family.
At Aaghun, we don't just offer a place to stay - we invite you to experience the soul of Assam. Every meal, every conversation, every sunrise and every walk through the village is an opportunity to connect with nature, culture and people in a meaningful way.
Aaghun Homestay is wheelchair accessible, ensuring a comfortable and inclusive stay for guests with mobility needs.

When you stay at Aaghun, you become part of our family. Share stories over home-cooked meals, discover Assamese traditions, celebrate local festivals and experience the warmth, simplicity and genuine hospitality that define rural Assam. Here, meaningful connections matter more than formal service.

At Aaghun, we don't prepare separate meals for guests. We serve the same food our family enjoys every day - fresh, wholesome and lovingly prepared. Free from commercial buffets and artificial flavours, every meal offers an authentic taste of Assamese home cooking.

Our kitchen celebrates the seasons. Ingredients are sourced from our own garden, neighbouring farms and trusted local producers. Fresh vegetables, indigenous rice, herbs, fish and traditional recipes come together to create meals that reflect the authentic flavours of Assam.

Every guest has unique nutritional needs. Your host, Samadrita, a qualified dietitian and nutrition counsellor, thoughtfully curates meals to suit your health goals, dietary preferences and lifestyle. Every dish is carefully balanced to be nourishing, wholesome and deeply satisfying.

At Aaghun, the kitchen is the heart of our home. It is where recipes are passed down through generations, conversations come alive and guests become family. To celebrate different culinary traditions and dietary preferences, our home features three unique kitchens, each with its own purpose and story.
This is the soul of Aaghun - our everyday kitchen where we prepare the same meals we serve our own family. Fresh, seasonal ingredients, traditional recipes and heartfelt hospitality come together to give you an authentic taste of Assamese home cooking.
To honour diverse food choices and religious practices, our kitchen includes a dedicated vegetarian section. With separate cooking equipment, utensils, refrigeration and washing facilities, we maintain complete separation for vegetarian food preparation.
Experience the timeless charm of an Assamese village kitchen. Built with bamboo, thatch and mud, our traditional Juhaal preserves age-old cooking techniques using wood-fired stoves. More than just a place to cook, it is a living heritage space where you can witness traditional culinary practices, discover indigenous ingredients and savour flavours that have been part of Assamese homes for generations.

To help your body reconnect with its natural biological clock, we minimise artificial lighting after sunset.

On many evenings, tiny fireflies illuminate our surroundings, creating a magical natural spectacle rarely experienced in cities.

Far away from urban light pollution, the night sky comes alive with thousands of stars - perfect for stargazing and quiet reflection.

A small pond adds to the charm of Aaghun, attracting birds, butterflies, dragonflies and other native wildlife throughout the year.

Large windows, open spaces, natural ventilation and panoramic views allow sunlight and fresh air to become part of your stay. Wide verandas and lush gardens create peaceful spaces to relax, read or simply watch nature unfold.

Our three spacious en-suite rooms are thoughtfully designed for comfort while maintaining a close connection with nature. Wake up to birdsong, greenery and fresh country air, surrounded by the beauty of Kaziranga.

Reconnect with yourself in our dedicated yoga and meditation space, where the sounds of birds, breeze and nature provide the perfect setting for mindfulness and relaxation.

Slow down with a book in our cosy in-house library. Browse a carefully curated collection covering travel, wildlife, culture, history, wellness and literature while enjoying peaceful moments away from everyday distractions.

Spend an evening with Manoj Gogoi, fondly known as "The Man Who Speaks Nature." A renowned wildlife rescuer, he shares captivating stories of animal rescues, life around Kaziranga and the delicate balance between people and wildlife. An inspiring experience that offers a deeper understanding of the natural world.

Your host, Abhijit, isn't a tea expert - but tea is part of his family's legacy. With his grandfather served the Assam Tea Company during the British era and his father was a tea planter, every cup comes with a story. Taste a variety of Assam teas while discovering the rich heritage behind them.

As the day winds down, gather around the bonfire for a relaxed evening of barbecue, music, stories and meaningful conversations beneath the stars. If you enjoy singing or playing an instrument, you're welcome to join in. Every evening is designed to be warm, memorable and respectful of nature.

Step into the rhythm of rural Assam with a guided visit to nearby farms. Walk through fields, meet local farming families and harvest seasonal produce such as oranges, strawberries, watermelons and fresh vegetables. It is a wonderful opportunity to experience the region's agricultural traditions firsthand.

Learn the timeless art of Assamese craftsmanship through hands-on sessions with local artisans. Try your hand at weaving with bamboo, cane or water hyacinth, discover traditional techniques passed down through generations and take home a handcrafted souvenir as a memory of your experience.

Discover the journey of Assam tea from leaf to cup through a traditional tea-making experience. Learn about plucking, processing and brewing techniques while gaining insights into the culture, craftsmanship and heritage that have made Assam tea renowned across the world.

We arrange guided jungle safaris inside UNESCO World Heritage site Kaziranga National Park & Tiger Reserve during October to May. To make your experience seamless, we provide pick-up and drop-off from Aaghun to all four safari ranges: Kohora (Central), Bagori (Western), Agaratoli (Eastern) and Burhapahar.

Abhijit Gogoi is a sustainable tourism practitioner and storyteller who has dedicated his life to showcasing Assam's hidden gems. Through destination development, community initiatives, events and responsible travel, he works to create meaningful experiences that benefit both visitors and local communities.

Samadrita Rudraj Bora is a qualified dietitian, nutrition counsellor and food educator with a passion for wholesome, locally sourced food. She thoughtfully curates meals that are nutritious, seasonal and rooted in Assamese traditions, ensuring every guest enjoys food that nourishes both body and soul.

Guardian of our family, Jyoti Gogoi carries forward generations of Assamese culinary traditions with warmth, patience and quiet wisdom. Every meal she prepares reflects love, authenticity and the timeless flavours of rural Assam, making every guest feel welcomed not as a visitor, but as a member of the family.

Jayasnav is the youngest member of the family and an enthusiastic young host. Curious and cheerful, he loves introducing guests to the simple joys of village life, leading nature walks through the surrounding countryside and, on special evenings, filling the home with the gentle melodies of his violin.

At Aaghun, caring for our guests also means caring for the environment. Sustainability isn't a feature - it's a way of life.
When we built Aaghun, our dream was to create a home that would never need air conditioning. We designed it with high roofs, open verandahs and natural ventilation, hoping it would remain comfortable through every season. Over time, however, we realised that modern construction alone cannot always withstand changing climatic conditions.
While we have kept the electrical provision ready for air conditioners, we have consciously chosen not to install them. Instead, we close the homestay for nearly three months during the hottest part of the year. It is a financial sacrifice we willingly make, believing that comfort should never come at the unnecessary cost of the planet.
We know there may come a day when changing weather makes air conditioning unavoidable. Until then, we remain committed to living our values, not just speaking about them.
We've also chosen not to provide packaged drinking water. Instead, we serve safe, filtered drinking water to reduce plastic waste and encourage more responsible travel.
Every small choice matters. By staying at Aaghun, you become part of our shared commitment to protect nature, reduce our carbon footprint, and preserve this beautiful corner of Assam for generations to come.
