Sowing Hope. Harvesting Change.
Just as Aaghun is the season of harvesting hope, gratitude and abundance after months of care and perseverance, Aaghun Foundation believes that meaningful change is cultivated, not created overnight.
Every small action, every helping hand and every community effort is a seed of hope that grows into stronger livelihoods, healthier ecosystems and more resilient communities. Through sustainable tourism, environmental conservation, education and community empowerment, we work to ensure that every initiative leaves people, places and nature richer than before.

A community-led initiative to restore livelihoods, rebuild resilience and transform a flood-affected village into a thriving, sustainable tourism destination.

From village roads to wildlife corridors, our team and volunteers regularly organise cleanliness drives to keep Kaziranga clean and free from plastic waste. Through consistent action and community participation, we are building awareness about responsible waste management and encouraging everyone to take pride in their surroundings. Every clean-up is a small step towards protecting the landscape, wildlife and villages that make Kaziranga so special.

We believe that teaching sustainability from an early age is crucial. We organize various programs in schools to educate children about cleanliness, hygiene and environmental conservation through games, various activities and interactive discussions.

On World Environment Day 2024, we distributed and planted 40 flower, fruit and medicinal saplings in Geleki Mikir Gaon. Instead of planting them in public spaces, we encouraged households to plant and care for them within their own properties along the roadside. This simple community-led approach has worked remarkably well. Today, the saplings are growing into healthy trees, adding greenery to the village while promising fruit, shade and long-term benefits for both families and passersby.

Residents of Kaziranga play a vital role in conserving Kaziranga National Park. Each year, Kaziranga is affected by floods, forcing both animals and people to seek refuge. While animals find shelter in the Karbi Anglong hills, flood-affected families take refuge in nearby schools. With the support of our guests, friends and well-wishers, Aaghun extends help whenever needed - from serving ready-to-eat meals in relief camps to providing drinking water, hygiene and sanitation kits and other essential supplies. As families return home, we continue to support them with basic necessities to help them rebuild their lives with dignity.

A significant portion of the revenue from WTRP activities is used to support local sports. We assist local football teams with tournament participation and provide them with various accessories. Additionally, we support local runners in competing in state and national-level marathons and other running events.

WTRP is a community-led sustainable tourism initiative that promotes meaningful outdoor experiences across Kaziranga and other parts of Assam. Through walking, trekking, running and cycling, we connect travellers with local people, culture and nature while ensuring tourism creates real benefits for the communities that host them.
WTRP proves that meaningful tourism experiences don't always require capital. Local youth can begin leading walking and trekking experiences with their knowledge of the land. Cycling tours can start using their own bicycles or those already available in the village. We organise running events from time to time, creating additional opportunities for local participation and income. By using existing skills, natural surroundings and community resources, tourism becomes accessible to everyone - not just those with money to invest.
Experiences are created, managed and owned by local communities.
Tourism income reaches local families, youth and small entrepreneurs instead of leaving the destination.
Creating opportunities for guides, homestays, transport providers, artisans, food vendors and local service providers.
Promoting responsible tourism that protects Assam's natural and cultural heritage.
To build a network of community-owned tourism experiences across Kaziranga and Assam, where tourism creates livelihoods, strengthens local economies and inspires conservation.
