At Aaghun, we are committed to the principles of sustainable tourism, embracing a holistic approach that prioritizes the well-being of our planet, people, and profits. Sustainability, to us, means maintaining a delicate balance across three essential pillars:
Planet: We strive to minimize our environmental impact by adopting eco-friendly practices and supporting conservation efforts. Our goal is to preserve the natural beauty of our destinations for future generations while promoting responsible travel that respects and protects local ecosystems.
People: Our initiatives are designed to benefit local communities by creating economic opportunities and fostering cultural exchange. We collaborate with local stakeholders to ensure that tourism contributes positively to the well-being of residents and supports their livelihoods.
Profit: We believe in the importance of generating sustainable financial returns that allow us to reinvest in both our environmental and social initiatives. By ensuring that our business practices are profitable, we can continue to support and enhance our sustainable efforts over the long term.
Each of these pillars is integral to our sustainability framework. To uphold our commitment, we have implemented a variety of activities and initiatives, ranging from eco-friendly operations and community engagement to ethical business practices. At Aaghun, we recognize that true sustainability cannot be achieved without balancing these three elements, and we are dedicated to making a positive impact through every aspect of our work.
We conduct regular cleanliness drives in Geleki Mikir Gaon and along our trekking routes. Raising community awareness about cleanliness has been challenging, but through persistent efforts and support from local youth, we are making progress. Our goal is to establish Geleki Mikir Gaon as a clean village, and we have begun installing garbage bins along the roadside. Funds for these activities come from revenue generated through WTRP.
We believe that teaching sustainability from an early age is crucial. We organize various programs in schools to educate children about cleanliness, hygiene and environmental conservation through games, various activities and interactive discussions.
In 2024, on World Environment Day, we distributed and planted 40 flower, fruit, and medicinal plants. To ensure the plants' survival and reduce maintenance costs, we encouraged families to plant saplings on their property close to the roadside. This approach will allow people to benefit from the plants as they grow, providing fruit and shade for roadside passersby.
Residents of Kaziranga play a vital role in conserving Kaziranga National Park. Each year, Kaziranga is affected by floods, forcing both animals and people to seek refuge. While animals find shelter in the Karbi Anglong hills, flood-affected families take refuge in nearby schools. With the help of our guests, friends and well-wishers, Aaghun has donated hygiene and cleanliness items to nearly 200 families in relief camps, helping them maintain cleanliness and hygiene during their stay and after returning home.
A significant portion of the revenue from WTRP activities is used to support local sports. We assist local football teams with tournament participation and provide them with various accessories. Additionally, we support local runners in competing in state and national-level marathons and other running events.

WTRP operates on the principle of community involvement, encouraging participation and ownership from local residents. This fosters a sense of belonging and collective responsibility towards the initiative's success.
All activities within WTRP are owned and managed by the community itself. This decentralized approach empowers community members to take charge of organizing events, ensuring they cater to the specific needs and interests of participants.
WTRP prioritizes environmental sustainability, promoting activities that minimize ecological impact and enhance appreciation for nature. By encouraging walking, trekking, running, and cycling in natural settings, the initiative fosters a deeper connection to the environment while promoting conservation efforts.
WTRP strives to reduce the financial strain on entrepreneurs by offering initiatives that don't demand significant capital. Entrepreneurs can commence activities with minimal or even no initial investment, gradually enhancing amenities over time. This approach guarantees widespread participation, ensuring that everyone can reap the benefits.
By leveraging the resources and talents within the community, WTRP has the potential to generate numerous self-employment opportunities. Whether through organizing events, providing guiding services, or offering related amenities, individuals can create sustainable livelihoods while contributing to the initiative's growth.
By lowering the financial barrier to entry, WTRP encourages a broader range of individuals to become involved. Entrepreneurs from diverse backgrounds, including those with limited resources, can participate without being deterred by high startup costs.
With minimal financial constraints, entrepreneurs are encouraged to think creatively and innovatively about how to offer WTRP activities. This can lead to the development of unique and resourceful solutions that enhance the overall experience for participants.
Starting with little to no investment allows entrepreneurs to test the viability of their ideas and gradually scale their offerings as demand grows. This incremental approach minimizes risk while enabling gradual expansion and improvement over time.
When entrepreneurs are not burdened by financial pressures, they can focus on building strong relationships with the community. This fosters trust, collaboration, and active participation, which are essential for the long-term success of WTRP.
By prioritizing low or no investment, WTRP promotes sustainable growth that is driven by genuine community interest and engagement. This ensures the initiative's longevity and resilience, even in challenging economic circumstances.
Overall, adopting a low or no investment approach aligns with the principles of inclusivity, sustainability, and community empowerment that are central to the WTRP initiative. It allows entrepreneurs to contribute their talents and resources while ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to benefit from and participate in the initiative.
WTRP collaborates with local authorities and community members to identify suitable locations and finalize activities that align with the natural and cultural heritage of the area.
WTRP organize awareness programs and workshops to educate the local community, especially youth, about the importance of sustainable tourism. This includes fostering respect for the environment, cultural heritage, and responsible tourism practices.
WTRP facilitate cleanliness drives in collaboration with local residents, emphasizing the importance of keeping natural and cultural sites clean and preserving their beauty for attracting tourists as well as for future generations.
WTRP provide training sessions for locals so that they can become volunteers and guides as well as to enhance their knowledge and skills in areas such as environmental conservation, first aid, customer service, and cultural interpretation.
We have developed a sustainable economic model that ensures fair distribution of revenue generated from activities. This includes allocating shares for volunteers' compensation, village development projects, environmental conservation efforts and social welfare initiatives.
We conduct regular evaluations of activities to assess their impact on the community, environment, and economy. Feedback from participants and stakeholders will be used to continuously improve and refine the initiative.
We have established standards for safety, quality, and sustainability across all activities. This includes adhering to environmental regulations, ensuring participant safety, and maintaining the integrity of cultural sites.
WTRP will establish partnerships with government agencies, non-profit organizations, and tourism stakeholders to leverage resources, expertise, and support for the initiative.
We are promoting activities through various channels, including social media, local media outlets, and tourism networks, to attract participants and raise awareness about the initiative's objectives and impact.
By implementing these strategies, WTRP will not only enrich the tourism experience but also contribute to the social, economic, and environmental well-being of local communities.
